Originating in Ibach, Switzerland, the Swiss Army knife was first produced in 1891 when the Karl Elsener company, which later became Victorinox, won the contract to produce the Swiss Army's Modell 1890 knife from the previous German manufacturer. Since that time Victorinox has become synonymous with high quaity products from the original army knife to watches, cutlery, travel gear and even fragrances.
